Description: The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Arkansas Division, and the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) have an agreement to streamline the Section 404 permit process. Before the agreement, AHTD was required to deal with three different offices of the USACE (Little Rock, Memphis, and Vicksburg). Under the agreement, there is one point of contact when applying for USACE permits needed for highway construction jobs. Additionally, AHTD and FHWA fund a position in the USACE's Little Rock office dedicated to processing permit applications.
